As working in the cloud becomes the common choice for QuickBooks’ ® users, so will the process of converting from desktop software to the cloud become common-place for QuickBooks consultants. Migrating to the cloud was certainly a need for one of my clients, POWER, which I recently converted from QuickBooks for Mac to QuickBooks Online. Whichever way you choose the process is still the same to convert the QuickBooks Mac file to a QuickBooks Windows file. It requires preparing the company file in the Mac file (the bulk of your time) and then importing the compressed conversion file. Preparing the company file Ensure you have the administrator password before beginning.

On your Mac

  1. In QuickBooks for Mac, choose File > Open Company, select the MAC.qbb file, and then click Open.
  2. Click OK on when asked if you want to restore a QuickBooks for Windows file.
  3. Enter a name for the restored file, and then click Save.

Depending on the size of your data file, the conversion process can take up to ten minutes. When conversion is complete, QuickBooks opens the file.
