Let’s talk about arecent client named Harry.

We first spoke to Harry in January. At the time he was still busy in his own company. But by May he was past that and focused on his career search. Harry was 65 years old at the time, and wanted to work for 5 more years, at which time his son will likely have graduated college. Harry had run his own construction management company for the last 3 years but he was winding things down and finishing up last projects. He and his wife also have a medical billing franchise, however, in the meantime she can run this without him.

Harry had foundsearching online, and trying to contact recruiters very discouraging, and waslooking for a more effective search strategy. His wife was verysupportive, too, to the point where she was willing to sacrifice and move toNew Jersey if necessary, even though she really preferred Florida.

During our Clarity Program© Harry came across as a high Dominance,driven personality, who nevertheless demonstrated a coolheaded reserve andreflection under stress. The psychometric element also highlighted a fewareas of potential improvement. For example, Harry had a tendency to

  • Take on too much, too soon, too fast.
  • Blame, deny and defend his position–even if it is not needed.
  • Be disruptive because of his innate restlessness and disdain for sameness.

Indeed, often ourclients get in their own way during the career change process, but Harry wasopen-minded and accepted the need for change in certain of his behavior to hisown advantage.

The Clarity Program© also helped him formulate a crisp careertarget: Senior Vice President of Construction at a significant real estatedevelopment firm.

Harry stayed with the TBG program despite his innate restlessness, working through the Packaging, Market Access, and Preparation stages. He embraced the TBG method regarding expanding his social networking efforts (as part of the Market Access phase) and one of his construction contacts introduced him to the VP of Construction as a target company.

That VP, however, wastraveling a lot and Harry became panicked when the VP became non-responsiveafter a few weeks. We helped him stay calm and focused and finally the VPset a meeting with Harry. So we coached him through it. The VP wasso impressed that he arranged a direct meeting with the CEO—a great meeting inwhich the CEO asked Harry to write a white paper laying out changes in thecompany Harry could implement.

We provided a line byline review of the white paper. The CEO was very impressed by the finalwhite paper, and that, naturally, resulted in an initial job offer. Ourclients enjoy support from a six-person team, all of whom got involved in thenegotiation brain-storming because there was a lot of room to negotiate. Thefinal offer came in at a total comp of $1.3 million.

Harry landed his newjob in less than 90 days, too.

Earlier this year, researchers from the University of Pennsylvania and the University of Illinois at Chicago found that stem cells could help speed up bone healing after large breaks or other defects.

These researchers developed a special technique that involved the use of stem cells along with implantable and flexible bone-stabilizing plates.

This technique allowed the stem cells to experience mechanical stress, the same way they do in developing embryos.

The stress placed on the stem cells helped encourage them to differentiate into bone and cartilage. It may have also encouraged other cells in the bone to regenerate at a faster rate.

2. Heart Regeneration After Heart Attack

Another study from this year showed that stem cell therapies may be beneficial to those who have suffered a heart attack.

In an animal study, researchers from the Icahn School of Medicine found that certain stem cells from the placenta (these are known as Cdx2 cells) have the ability to regenerate healthy heart cells after a heart attack has taken place.

Researchers once thought that these cells only generated the placenta during early embryonic development.

That’s not actually the case, though. They seem to have a lot of capabilities (including the potential to regenerate heart cells) that researchers are starting to explore further.

3. Cardiomyopathy Treatment

In addition to helping those who have experienced a heart attack, stem cells can also benefit those dealing with cardiomyopathy.

This is a disease of the heart muscle that makes it harder for the heart to pump blood.

When stem cells were implanted into the hearts of cardiomyopathy patients, researchers for the American Heart Association found that heart functioning improved in a significant way.

The patients also experienced less frequent hospitalization and lower medical costs as a result.

4. Faster Burn Healing

Researchers have also been working on the development of special spray-on stem cell treatments.

These treatments have the potential to be miraculous for those suffering from severe burns. Not only do they help to heal burns more quickly, but they can also heal the burn without leaving a scar behind.

This can help burn victims to recover faster and avoid having to deal with the reduced quality of life that often accompanies severe trauma like second- and third-degree burns.

5. Rotator Cuff Repairs

The rotator cuff is different from many other tendons in the body. It does not have the same ability to heal itself.

Because of this, rotator cuff injuries can be very debilitating and may cause people pain and discomfort for the rest of their lives. They’re also more likely to experience subsequent injuries.

With the help of stem cells treatments, though, this may no longer be an issue.

In a study on rats, researchers from the Institute for Regenerative Engineering at the University of Connecticut found that stem cell therapy could help to heal rotator cuff tears when other treatments failed.

Stem cells appear to do a good job of helping to control inflammation in the body. They can also help to regenerate cartilage and other tissues that become damaged as a result of uncontrolled inflammation.

8. Potential Cure for Parkinson’s Disease

Those who are looking to learn more about stem cell therapy and its benefits will also be pleased to know that some early research shows it can help those suffering from Parkinson’s Disease.

Researchers have recently done experiments using stem cells to produce new dopamine neurons in the brain.
